Tip 1: Start where your friend is at.
From experience, it is easy to be a bit of a bulldozer when you are excited about something That is why we suggested you use L.E.C. (Listen. Encourage. Challenge). This helps you start where your friend is at and take it together from there.
Tip 2: Have a clear outcome in mind.
Do you want to challenge your friend to:
- be informed (sign up on this website),
- be a voice (start telling HER world about empart4women) or
- FUNdraise (usually best to be for a specific project)?
Tip 3: Be willing to change your planned outcome as you listen.
For example, you might be hoping to get your friend to hold an Emparty to help you raise some funds for empart4women. As you listen first you realise she is not able to do this at the moment because of sick kids or work issues or… you get the idea. But dont forgo your challenge! ** Remember that a little miracle takes place when we focus on helping someone else – we grow and are transformed ourselves. ** Just change your challenge to fit with your friend’s current situation. Get her to sign up to the website. A seed is planted and she will act when she is ready and able.
Tip 4: Follow up!
You believed in your friend enough to Listen. Encourage. Challenge. Now make sure you follow up with her. Ask how she is going – and if she has taken up your challenge yet.
